Space Apps is an international hackathon that occurs over 48 hours in cities around the world. Because of citizens like you, we continue to grow each year. If you haven’t already, join us to share ideas and engage with open data to address real-world problems, on Earth and in space. Work alone or with a team to solve challenges that could help change the world. Check back here to find a Space Apps event near you, or sign up to participate virtually.

Part of the Open Government Partnership, Space Apps is an annual event that pulls citizens together regardless of their background or skill level. Don’t let the name fool you… it’s not just about apps! Tackle a challenge using robotics, data visualization, hardware, design and many other specialties! Synergy Tech Startup Contest

Synergy Tech Startup Contest for Startups from Seattle and the Greater Pacific Northwest has been initiated and applications are open from February 9th. Finals will be held live from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM on April 5, 2017, in SURF Incubator, 999 Third Ave, Suite 700, Seattle. The contest is designed to offer a unique Synergy experience: the winner will receive $25,000 in software development services to take their project to the next level. Additional prizes will also be offered by legal and technology sponsors in support of emerging companies. The application form and the agenda can be found here: Synergy Contest.

The event has been created for tech startups by tech specialists. This is our way of supporting and rewarding groundbreaking technical startup businesses from Seattle and the Greater Pacific Northwest, as well as promoting the benefits of global collaboration and the remote team model.

The entry requirements: The applicant must be a startup from Seattle and the Greater Pacific Northwest with an innovative tech product. The applicant should have a viable business plan that can be accelerated through access to high-quality development resources. The applicant must have a mature marketing strategy and have raised initial funding.

The Idea behind the Event: Connecting Angels and Companies seeking funding spend a lot of time trying to meet angels. Similarly, angels spend a lot of time meeting with companies, shepherding deals to other angels, etc. The whole process is fraught with inefficiency, and is very time consuming.

At this event, we will try help connect Entrepreneurs with Active Angel Investors. We always have a good crowd of active angel investors (15 at the last event). We also hope to have a bunch companies seeking angel funds in attendance (40 at the last event)

Easier CloudFormation ~ and ~ Getting to the Cloud

Event Description:

Teri Radichel helped Capital One move production workloads to the cloud as part of the initial core Cloud Engineering and Operations teams. She also worked on and with the Security Operations team to set up AWS networking for over 70 VPCs. She is now a Cloud Architect at WatchGuard Technologies helping WatchGuard make the move. Learn some strategies that will help you if you are: trying to convince your company move to the cloud, moving to the cloud, in need of scalable DevOps, trying to pick the right AWS services and manage the balance between security and innovation.

Kolby Allen from WatchGuard Technologies will be showing us how to make CloudFormation templates more manageable. He will also give strategies for handling configuration changes that might make your life easier and your EC2 instances and Docker containers more secure via immutable infrastructure. Finally…why you might choose CloudFormation over TerraForm and vice versa. Kolby was formerly a consultant working with AWS, IT and networking. He is now at WatchGuard helping build WatchGuard’s CICD platform.
