Our first meeting on October 4th will begin our season by welcoming Seattle Port Commissioner John Creighton, speaking on “The State of the Port”.
John was elected to the Seattle Port Commission in November 2005 and is the longest serving Commissioner currently in office. During his time on the Commission he has served three times as Commission President, and on the audit and strategic planning committees of the Commission. As commissioner, John has focused on keeping the Port strong as a jobs creation engine while increasing the agency’s commitment to the environment and making it a more accountable, socially responsible public agency. Before becoming a commissioner, John worked as a lawyer specializing in complex international transactions in the port cities of Singapore, Helsinki and Istanbul prior to returning home and establishing his own practice. Immutable infrastructure is a practice for infrastructure management that continues to grow in popularity due to the advent of cloud computer and containerization. DJ Enriquez, who leads the DevOps efforts at Seattle-bred startup, Glympse, will share tips on how this can be achieved in an AWS environment using technologies like cloud-init, S3, HashiCorp’s Consul and your favorite CI tool, whatever that may be. Gone are the days where servers need maintenance, if an issue exists, we simply terminate the instance and let immutability carry us into the future.
